Kulgam: Ruling National Conference candidate for Anantnag parliamentary seat and sitting MP, Mehboob Beg, on Friday said the party was ashamed of killing of more than 100 unarmed protesters by government forces during the 2010 agitation in Kashmir.
“No doubt over 100 people were killed during our regime in 2010 unrest. We are very much ashamed for that but (opposition PDP patron) Mufti (Mohammad Sayeed) should not forget the massacre of 45 people in his home town Bijbehara when he was enjoying the ministry in Centre,” Beg told a rally at Divsar in Kulgam district.
Hitting out at BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Beg said, “Modi is the worst enemy of Muslims. Abrogation of Article 370 and construction of Ram Mandir figures in his party’s manifesto. Some people here are trying to strengthen Modi’s hands but I clearly tell them that we are here to protect the special position of the state.”
“Anyone who will try to touch the Article 370 we will chop off his hands. I also ask those strengthening Modi’s hands in the state to desist from doing so,” Beg added.
Asking the people to compare his performance with that of his predecessor, Mehbooba Mufti, Beg said, “Both me and Mehbooba represented the constituency in the parliament. The performance of both of us is before you. Even Mufti Sahab on the floor of the assembly praised me for my performance, honesty and dedication as MLA. So I hope people will judge us on the basis of our performance.”
He said that he has put all the details of his constituency development fund on the website. “How much funds I received as parliamentarian and how I utilized them on developmental works, all details are available on website. Anybody can check it out and question me about the utilization of my CD fund. But nobody knows what Mehbooba did with her CD funds when she represented the constituency,” Beg said.
