Malik, aides detained on way to Baramulla

Srinagar: Police Friday detained  Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front(JKLF) chairman  Mohammad Yasin Malik along with several associates in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The JKLF leaders were on their way to Baramulla to address a public gathering in connection with the election boycott campaign when “SOG, RR and CRPF attacked their vehicles,” a JKLF spokesman said in  a statement.
12 people including Malik were injured in the “assault,” the spokesman said.
Forceful demonstrations erupted in Baramulla as word about the arrest of Yasin Malik reached there, the spokesman said.
People including a large number of youth marched raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans. Later they they were addressed by JKLF leaders Showkat Ahmad Bakhshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Mir Siraj Ud Din Davood, Prof Javed and Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri etc.
“On one hand India and its puppets are using the state machinery to arrest, harass and intimidate anybody associated with the poll boycott campaing while on the other hand pro-India leaders are provided security and other facilities to hold rallies,” the spokesman said.
