Srinagar: The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road was briefly blocked Tuesday following a landslide triggered by incessant rains in Uri sector of Baramulla district, police said.
A massive landslide hit the road near Laghama in Uri, 101 kms from here, blocking traffic, a police spokesman said.
He said police immediately swung into action to clear the road which connects Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) with Srinagar.
The personnel of Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which maintains the vital roads in the state, joined the rescue work and the road was cleared for light vehicles, the spokesman said.
The Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road had been blocked several times over the past few weeks due to massive landslides which also prompted the authorities to shift dozens of families living close to the Line of Control to safer places.
Meanwhile, many houses have been damaged due to landsliding and road connectivity to many villages has also been afffected.
A local seminary( Darul Uloom) and several residential houses suffered extensive damage due to landslide in Goniwan Tangmarg.
Officials evacuated the families of Mohammed Ashraf Bhat, Mohammed Yusuf Khan and Ghulam Mohammad Khan in Kunzer area.
