Baramulla: The traffic on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway on Thursday was suspended after a massive landslide hit the highway near Dankhan area of the district.
Official sources told Kashmir Reader that a landslide hit Dankhan area on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad around 1:00 pm Thursday blocking the crucial highway for traffic for several hours. Though no one Scores of vehicles were stranded on the either sides, as the officials of beacon pressed into service its men and machinery to clear the road. The Officiating Commander, BEACON Kaushik Mishra and Station House Officer (SHO) Baramulla, Masrat Ahmad reached the spot and monitored the restoration work. After two hours, the highway was reopened for traffic.
Pertinently, in 2000, at least 40 people were killed and many injured when a passenger bus had came under a landslide in the hilly Dankhan area of the district.
