Govt draws flak for being ill-prepared

Jammu: People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and  CPI(M) Wednesday alleged that the state administration was ill-prepared for the snowfall despite prediction by the Meteorological Department, leading to massive power shutdown and road blockades in the Kashmir Valley.
“The administration was ill-prepared to cope up with the expected snowfall in the Kashmir Valley as was already predicted by the Meteorological Department,” CPI(M) Jammu and Kashmir state unit secretary M Y Tarigami said here.
Tarigami said the authorities’ tall claims about their alertness have been deflated by the massive power shutdown, road blockades, damages to water supply lines, scarcity of ration, water-logging and other difficulties faced by the people in Kashmir.
Stating that the government has been “buried under few inches of snowfall,” PDP expressed concern over the deteriorated state of affairs in Kashmir due to the fresh snowfall.
“Though the snow is not something new to place like Kashmir, but the NC-led government has always made people suffer badly, on account of its inefficiency and insensitivity, over the last five years,” PDP leader and former finance minister of the state, Tariq Hameed Karra said while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here.
The Mirwaiz  Umar Farooq-led Hurrriyat also castigated the authorities “for not appropriate steps  to prevent the loss of life  and property despite having prior knowledge of the heavy snowfall.”
The Kashmir chapter of  Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)  demanded that snow clearance be undertaken under MG NREGA scheme for speedy clearance of important link roads in valley and ensuring employment generation for the people.
