Army officer escapes militant attack

Srinagar: Army has launched a manhunt for suspected militants after they attacked an officer, heading a unit of the Rashtriya Rifles, in  north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Reports said militants fired at the vehicle of the Rashtriya Rifles battalion commander at Khushipora in Rafiabad area while he was going about on routine duties late Saturday.
“Militants used automatic weapons and grenades to attack the vehicle of the commandant of the RR battalion stationed in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district,” the reports said.
The militants’ fire was returned by the guards of the commander. No RR personnel was injured in the attack. Militants are believed to have escaped under the cover of darkness in the area, the reports said.
