Srinagar: Security has been beefed up across south Kashmir’s Pulwama district following two attacks on Monday that left two policemen dead and two more injured.
The security was further tightened Wednesday in the south Kashmir district, where 2 cops were shot dead and two injured in two attacks that took place on Monday in a span of two hours. CRPF and police personnel have been deployed in strength at several places to thwart any possible militant attacks. At Rajpora, Bus Stand and other places, mobile bunkers have been erected to carry out searches of vehicles and pedestrians. At sensitive spots, armoured vehicles have been deployed to meet any eventuality.
“The forces also conducted thorough checking of vehicles at many places along the strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway. Besides, pedestrians were also frisked and subjected to identity checks,” reports said.
Earlier in the day, Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel and troopers cordoned off Pulwama Bus Stand and frisked people. The forces also carried out searches along the inter-districts roads.
Meanwhile, the locals have complained of inconvenience due to rampant security checks. Thin movement of people and transport was observed in the town due to heavy deployment of the forces.
However, a senior police official said that the searches and frisking in the district was a routine exercise.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Tajinder Singh was quoted by a local news agency as saying that police was trying to nab the militants involved in the killing of two policemen. “We are working on it and it will be premature to disclose any details at this point of time,” he said.
Meanwhile, the cop stabbed in neck in Drangbal Pampore on Monday was discharged from SKIMS on Wednesday, where he was being treated upon.
