LA passes resolution to check female foeticide

JAMMU: The Legislative Assembly Friday adopted a resolution seeking  measures to check the menace of female foeticide in the state. The resolution was moved by Chowdarty Zulfkar Ali and Nizam-ud-Din Bhat.
Several members spoke in support of the resolution. Winding up the discussion on the resolution, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Taj Mohi-ud-Din said that though the government has already taken several steps to curb the menace of female foeticide, it welcomes suggestions of Assembly members to deal with the sensitive issue.
“Government has put in place effective mechanism to deal with people who indulge in illegal practices of sex determination and foeticide. Several sops have been announced for the whistle blowers and many people are coming forward to give information on such activities,” the Minister said.
Legislators Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Dr. Shafi Ahmed Wani, Bimla Luthra, Aga Syed Ruhulla and Ashwani Kumar Sharma participated in the discussion and supported the Resolution.
Later, the House adopted the resolution unanimously.
