JKCCC to hold protest demonstration on Tuesday against delay in payments

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCC) will hold a demonstration at press colony Lalchowk on Tuesday to protest against, what it calls, an undue delay in payment of their bills.
“The pending bills for the last three years amount to Crores of rupees and many contractors are in dire need and are not even able to pay wages to their laborers,” chairman, JPCCC, Ghulam Jeelani Purza said.
Purza who called upon the contractor fraternity to participate in the demonstration said “we approached all the relevant quarters before holding this demonstration.”
“No one understands our plight,” he said, adding that the government was not serious to release the bills.
The payments according to the committee statement are pending for the works carried by contractors with Public Works Department (Roads and Buildings), Public Health Engineering Department, Irrigation and Flood control Department, Housing and Estates Department, Urban Environment Engineering Department and JK Tourism Department.
