Kashmir Valley receives fresh snowfall and rains

SRINAGAR: Higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall while rains lashed the plains of the region, including Srinagar on Saturday.
Srinagar received 1.8 mm of rainfall till 08:30 hours Saturday morning, an official of the MeT Department said.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, over a degree up from the previous nights’s 1.8 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund – the gateway town to Kashmir valley – received 6.2 mm rainfall and the mercury there settled at a low of 0.2 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous nights 0.6 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam resort witnessed fresh snowfall of 2 cm and registered a minimum temperature of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, as against minus 2.2 degrees Celsius the previous night.
The night temperature in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg dipped by over three degrees to record a low of minus 8.6 degrees Celsius as against the previous nights minus 5.4 degrees Celsius.
The resort received snow and rains equivalent to 13.6 mm of rainfall with the snow depth of 5 cm.
Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded 6 cm of snow during the night along with 8.9 mm rainfall, the official said, adding the mercury in the town settled at a low of minus 0.2 degree Celsius.
Kupwara town, in north Kashmir, received 2 mm of rainfall and recorded a low of 2.4 degrees Celsius, as against minus 0.6 degree Celsius the previous night.
The minimum temperature in Leh town of Ladakh, went up by over five degrees to settle at minus 4.3 degrees Celsius as compared to the previous nights minus 10.0 degrees Celsius, he said.
Nearby Kargil town recorded a low of minus 10.9 degrees Celsius, as compared to the previous nights minus 12.2 degrees Celsius.
The MeT Department has predicted light rain or snowfall at a few places in the state over the next 24 hours.
