Police detain Hurriyat Conference JK leaders

SRINAGAR: Police on Friday detained leaders of Hurriyat Conference J&K when they were on way to Warpora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore town, a spokesman of the amalgam said in a statement.
He said that leaders including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Yusuf Naqash, Tariq Ahmad, Munir Ahmad, Sajad Ahmad Tantray and dozens of other activists were arrested near Parimpora area of Srinagar.
The spokesman while condemning the arrests said that “arresting Shabir Shah has become a routine for authorities.”
“Shah has been either arrested or put under house arrest for 15 months and 20 days during the past three years and was prevented from offering 117 Friday and six Eid prayers,” he said.
He said that other Hurriyat leaders, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Shabir Ahmad Dar managed to reach Warpora “where they addressed public gathering amid pro-freedom slogans.”
“The leaders reiterated their pledge to continue the freedom struggle against forcible occupation of India till any solution as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiri people is not found,” the spokesman said.
They also condemned the Indian Defense Minister, AK Antony’s clean chit to forces involved in Pathribal fake encounter.
“Indian government treats Jammu and Kashmir as its colony and treats its people as a mere cattle,” they said.
Meanwhile, the amalgam also paid rich tributes to Tawseef Ahmad Dar of Parchoo, Pulwama who was slain in Charar-e-Sharief area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district some days back and reiterated to “continue struggle for freedom.”
“Freedom is our goal and we will continue our struggle against Indian occupation till the mission of martyrs is not accomplished,” the statement said.
“The martyrs laid their precious lives for the right of self determination which India has usurped,” the statement said, adding “The sacrifices will not go waste as Hurriyat Conference is the guardian of these sacrifices and will not let anyone play with their sacred blood.”
HCJK also expressed grief over demise of Nazir Ahmad Qadri and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
