Jammu: Only two out of 140 private coaching centers operating in capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu are registered, government said on Thursday.
In a written reply to PDP legislator Mehbooba Mufti, the government informed the Legislative Assembly that none of the 60 coaching centers operating in Jammu city are registered while in Srinagar only two out of the 80 coaching centres are registered.
Last December, coaching centres had been given a “three-day deadline” to submit papers for registration with the concerned authorities after DC Srinagar Farooq Shah expressed dismay over delay in the process.
The administration had threatened to shut down coaching centres which didn’t register themselves or follow guidelines some of which included separate classes and timing for boys and girls, definition of fee criteria and stress on attendance.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Regulation of Private Tuitions Centre Rules, no educational agency shall establish a private tuition centre without the prior permission of the government or the competent authority.
