Issues hampering Bhathinda-Srinagar gas pipeline resolved: CAPD minister

JAMMU: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan Thursday launched the annual Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) campaign here at Hotel Asia.
The campaign is organised by Oil Companies operating in the state every year from January 16 to 31 under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister highlighted the importance of conservation of energy, including oil and natural gas and said that it would help to make the future of coming generations secure.
The minister said that main objective of celebrating this fortnight is to create awareness about fuel saving during day-to-day human activities. He said that the consumption of fuel like oil and gas for human activities including transport, industry, agriculture and households can be reduced to a large extent if certain tips are followed by the consumers. He stressed for achieving the goal by launching massive awareness programs in urban as well as in rural areas.
Ramzan asked the oil companies to closely monitor the supply of gas besides quality of petroleum products adding that it would also help in conservation of the fuel to a large extent. “There is a need to keep close vigil on black-marketing of subsidized gas and ensure unadulterated fuel for vehicles as it would also go a long way to save the resources from misuse,” he added.
Underlining the need for introducing efficient and cost effective transportation of gas and petroleum products, he said that laying of gas pipeline from Bathinda, Punjab to Jammu and Kashmir is in process and certain issues hampering the project has been cleared by the personal intervention of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He also called upon oil companies to streamline the LPG supply system and stressed the need for strict implementation of home delivery. He also asked the oil companies to expedite the process for opening LPG Gas outlets proposed for uncovered areas of the state.
