Emergency medical aid on phone soon, says Minister

JAMMU: In a major healthcare reform, the Jammu and Kashmir Medical department will soon launch ‘102 Emergency Referral Ambulance Service on ‘ 102 ‘ toll free helpline in the state, with special focus to provide immediate medicare to the needy persons in rural areas.
This was revealed by the Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan at a high level officers meeting of Health Department held here Sunday to review the status of the health care schemes launched in the State under flagship programme of NRHM. He asked the officers to complete all the requirements for launch of the service, which will be made functional at all the district headquarters.
He said that by dialing 102 toll free number from any phone, people can avail the benefits of Referral Transport Service. He said the basic aim of the service is to provide timely medicare during health emergencies, accidents etc with main focus on Maternal and child health related emergencies.
The Minister said that around 800 ambulances across the state have been fitted with VTMS (GPS) so as to track the movement of every referral vehicle.
The Minister was informed that one control room for availing ambulance on toll free No 102 have been established in each district hospital of the state to further improve the health care delivery system appropriately and ensure use ambulances optimally. These control rooms shall be manned round the clock by operators who shall control and direct the flow of ambulances as per requirement.
The health officials further revealed that the control room will help in ensuring optimal delivery of health care to the patients/clients calling for help, that is, stabilization before transport, emergency admission, preparation of the institution to receive a critical patient etc.
