5 kg saffron seized at Srinagar airport

SRINAGAR: An attempt to smuggle out five kilograms of prized saffron from Srinagar to New Delhi was foiled Monday by sleuths of the Commercial Tax Department (CTD) here.
The CTD officials, with the assistance of CRPF troopers and police, found two residents of Pampore—Showkat Ahmad Bhat and Shahid Ahmad Bhat—carrying the saffron without documents at the Srinagar airport, reports said.
The saffron was seized at the CTD check post. The seized consignment lies with Commercial Tax’s Vigilance and Inspection division.
