Anantnag registers 5120 construction labourers for benefits

SRINAGAR: District Anantnag has registered 5120 construction workers for providing them benefits offered by the government under Labour Department, an official spokesperson said on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, a meeting of Labour Department and representatives of Constructional Workers Union was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Farooq Ahmad Lone in which threadbare discussions were held regarding the registration of workers and various benefits provided to constructional workers.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner informed the meeting that the process of registration is going on and more workers are expected to be registered for the benifts.
Decisions regarding various issues raised by the representative of union were also taken. It was also decided that the registration of workers be brought under Public Services Guarantee Act and wide publicity through print and electronic media be ensured for the schemes meant for the construction workers and awareness camps in coordination with PRIs be conducted throughout the district.
The meeting was also informed that last year scholarships to the tune of Rs 1.03 crore was disbursed among the children of construction workers and a relief of Rs 5.25 lakhs was distributed to the next of the kins of 5 deceased labourers.
Among others the meeting was also attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Joint Director Planning, Assistant Labour Commissioner and representatives of construction workers.
