LeT militant killed in Awantipora: Police

SRINAGAR: A suspected Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed on Tuesday evening in an encounter with Army in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said.
A police officer said Army had received intercepts about the presence of militants in the village. “As soon as the troops of 55 Rashtriya Rifles started to cordon Beighpora village, the militants present there resorted to heavy firing. In the ensuing encounter, a LeT militant was killed,” the official said.
He identified the slain militant was Irshad Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Majid Ganie of Larkipora, Padgampora.
“The slain militant was active for the past two years,” the police added.
