Khidmat Center holders on indefinite protest

Jammu: To press for their demands, Khidmat center holders, working for National e-Governance Project, Tuesday held protest at press club here.
Khidmat Center holders (VLE), under banner of Common Service Center Association, were protesting against J&K Bank, state government and concerned agencies for not implementing of NEGP in the state and failing to provide the promised services at Khidmat centers.
The protesters including women volunteers assembled in front of Press Club were holding placards and raised slogans against the government and J&K Bank for failing to implement their commitments made with VLEs who were selected and rolled out by the-SCA (J&K Bank) four years back as front end delivery points for the National E-Governance Scheme.
“We made representations to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah last year and in the same context a core committee was framed to put forward recommendations. The committee recommended a monthly stipend of Rs 7500 for each VLE. The recommendations where accordingly approved and a formal government order was issued in this regard Vide no. 46 ITD, Dated December 14, 2011,” the association president said, adding, “The order is yet to be implemented thus creating problems for all the VLEs and forcing them to suffer.”
He said, “When approached, IT Department says that they have released money to the bank for us but once we approach the bank they negate by explaining that they have received no money from IT Department.”
The president said VLEs were promised that government services like Electricity Bill collection service will be made available at Khidmat Centers under NEGP scheme which they can render to the citizens especially in the rural areas in the state of J&K but so far nothing has been done in this regard.
“We were not provided any Gap Support as the same is being disbursed by the GOI. We represented to the government mainly through its IT Ministry a number of times but of no use,” he added.
Now, Khidmat center holders across J&K have finally decided to start state level indefinite protests at Jammu against the government for failing to implement NEGP properly, he said.
“Unless and until our genuine demands are not heeded, our protest would continue against the concerned authorities for resolution of issues,” he added.
Meanwhile, the protesters demand immediately transfer of electric bill collection and disbursement of Gap Support with retrospective effect as promised by the government already should be done without any further delay.
