108 militants killed last year: Army

Baramulla: Asserting that the army was ready to tackle any situation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 15 Corps Lt Gen Om Prakash Friday said that 108 militants were killed by army in  Jammu and Kashmir last year.
“Last year 108 militants including many top commanders were killed. The presence of militants is there, but army is completely ready to tackle every situation,” Prakash told media persons on the sidelines of an official function here Friday.
The GOC said that it cannot be said whether the fresh infiltration have took place or not in recent time. He said, During the winter season snow heavily accumulates along every side of Line of Control ( LOC)  and it almost not possible to pass through heavy snow, so whatever is there some residential militants are active, from time to time they made their plans and we are alert to thwart there any plan or action.
Army, he said is always prepared to enhance their capabilities so that infiltration is minimized in future.
“The adversities bend upon sending more and more militants inside but we are fully prepared, beside we have very good surveillance system and our troops are deployed in high strength to thwart any infiltration in future,” he added.
When asked to comment on the debate over the revocation of AFSPA from certain areas, Praksh said army has given its suggestion to government and now it is government who can over look into it to take future steps.
GoC refused to draw conclusions when asked if the militancy has increased after recent attacks. He said these incidents remain going from time to time.
“We have to remain alert to counter and minimize these attacks,” he added
When asked about involvement of foreign militants in Bemina attack, he said that police is investigating the case.
